Nobody Beats The Drum are touring the USA, doing shows on SXSW, Miami WMC/Ultra Music Festival and you can still catch them the 30th of March in NYC. They will return later this year due to high demand… sounds like we need to catch up with them…

How was Texas? How was SXSW?
Really great. We’ve spent 10 days there, did five shows in front of really new crowds and made a lot of new contacts. There was a lot of energy during our sets and we really feel SXSW was the beginning of something new.

Are there many rangers there?
We haven’t seen Chuck, that was a bit of a disappointment.

Are you just playing for Dutch expats, empty venues or are you actually making new fans?
The great thing is that we have an American booking agent now, who has put us in the right places there. A few shows were at pretty big venues, with a lot of new people, so we feel that we reached a whole new audience compared to back in Europe. However, It’s all about the energy and we experienced that is universal.
We did a show for a Dutch party though. We met our friends Venz and Gilles from 22tracks in Austin and they asked us to come play at their party. So we did. That was a lot of fun.

What have you got to say to your new found American fans?
Drink a lot of water before you come to our next show. That way you’ll sweat more, sweat is good.

After SXSW you traveled to Miami, how was the trip?
Great! Traveled through the swamps of Louisiana. Stayed at the mother of a new American friend of ours. Had breakfast in New Orleans, traveled through Alabama and Mississippi, cheap motels, bad food. good music in the car.

Did you wrestle any alligators?
We called them out, but they didn’t show up, pussies…

If you would be on Miami Vice, what kind of characters would you be?
Bad guys!

You were scheduled the same time as DJ Tiesto at UMF, what is your favourite Tiesto track?
Haha, no comment. We respect him as an artist though.

How many 6 figures deals have you closed so far?
Many. We haven’t received any money yet though.

What books did Rogier get from the bookclub deal?
He hasn’t received them yet. He paid 3 months in advance though.

Who is going to write the NBTD book, will it be available through that same bookclub and who should make the movie about it?
Rop van Mierlo, yes, Bert Haanstra.

What is the weirdest thing that happened to you in the USA?
Sjam’s wallet fell into the water at the Ultra press tent. He had to jump in the water next to some of the biggest yachts we had ever seen. I don’t know if that’s weird, but it was certainly different.

What can we expect from NBTD for the rest of the year? Which continent is up next?
It will be USA all the way this year. We have gigs planned for May, June, July and probably September and beyond. We’ll build our world domination plan from there. We might not get home for a while. Sorry mom.

So this Friday, the 23rd of March, we are throwing a massive Kiss Off event with 310k & Tom’s Skateshop. 310k designed skateboards for Tom’s, which will be unveiled on the night. However, that’s not all… we are proud to show the Dutch premiere of skate movie ‘City of Rats’.

Design agency 310k has always been tied to Basserk Records for designing their artwork and always had a strong link with the skate scene, as they were avid skateboarders themselves. They’ve teamed up with Tom’s to create two fresh designs for the Amsterdam based skateshop. The decks will be revealed on the night.

We will also show the premiere of the ‘City of Rats‘ movie. The movie celebrates the 25th anniversary of Slam City Skates, the oldest European skateboard shop. Shot by acclaimed skate cinematographer Henry Edwards-Wood and features team riders, shop employees and the rest of London. The movie starts at 21:30, so come early!

This time they’ve been working on something different, two exclusive skateboard designs for the Amsterdam based Tom’s Skateshop.
